Baseball hats are back in style, which means your family may need an old-fashioned solution to the new problem of where to put them. So how about an unusual hat rack? You can make a creative and distinctive hat rack (or if there's a cook in your family, an apron rack) for any room in the house, using a single board and some old doorknobs you gathered from the garage, a flea market or an architectural salvage shop. Here's Bruce Johnson to show you how it's done.

    1. Select and cut the board to the size you want.

    2. Lay out the doorknobs in the pattern you want; mark holes.

    3. Select a diameter of dowel that will fit snugly into the doorknobs; drill a corresponding hole in the board.

    4. Taper one end of the dowel, apply glue and tap into doorknob; glue and tap the opposite end into the board.
