    "Fisherman" page

Paulette Jarvey creates three masculine pages -- that capture the spirit and interests of three different men.

    Mark

Materials: Masculine patterned paper (here, argyle, plaid, foulard)
    Solid pastel papers
    Brown and tan fibers
    Tan decorating chalk
    Scissors
    Ruler
    Glue

    1. To make background, measure down 2" from the top on the left hand side of the star paper and 4" on the right side. Cut from dot to dot. Then on the tan and brown diamond from the bottom measure up 2" from the bottom on the left hand side, and up 4" from the bottom on the right hand side. Mat on white leaving a 1/4" border. Glue top and bottom to the argyle paper (figure A).

    2. Crop and mat photo on white and trim close to the edge. Then mat on brown sponged paper trimming to a 1/8" border. Continue by matting both on white again (figure B), then trimming a 1/8" border. Cut the brown sponged and brown, white and black diamond to 3" x 7" each. Mat both pieces on white paper allowing a 1/8" space of white to show between the two pieces. Trim white paper leaving a 1/8" border.

    3. To make tag, cut brown sponged paper to 9-3/4" x 3" and cut top two sides at an angle. Mat on white paper and trim close to edge. Cut three 3/4" squares from star paper, brown and tan diamond and brown black and white diamond paper. Mat on white leaving a small space between the squares.

    4. Use white paper, journal on the computer and trim to size. Chalk edges of journal piece. Arrange as shown or desired and glue in place.

    America the Beautiful

    Masculine/patriotic papers
    12" x 12" white vellum
    Solid white paper
    Small star punch
    White snaps
    Red decorating chalk
    Scissors
    Ruler
    Glue

    1. Crop and mat photo onto white paper, then trim white paper to leave a narrow border. Next, mat photo and white mat onto red textured paper, trimming red textured paper to leave a narrow border. Mat again onto the blue stars paper, trimming blue stars to leave a 1/2" border. Mat all onto solid white paper, trimming to leave a narrow border.

    2. Cut a 6-1/4" square from the red stars paper, and punch 3 small stars in desired position. Mat onto solid white paper, trimming solid white paper to leave a narrow border, then mat onto the red textured paper. Trim red textured paper to leave a 1/8" border, then mat again onto solid white paper. Trim solid white paper to leave a narrow border. Glue to upper left hand corner of the page (figure C).

    3. Computer journal or write onto white vellum paper, then tear off right hand side of white vellum paper at an angle (figure D). Add some red chalk on the tear of the white vellum paper. Attach journal piece to the blue square with white snaps on the left side.

    4. Journal onto a 1-1/2" strip of white vellum and tear off the side edges and chalk torn edges with red.

    5. Assemble and glue the matted photo and journal strip to the page using a white snap in each corner of the matted photo.

    Our Fisherman

    Materials:

    Masculine Collage paper
    Solid jewel tone papers
    Solid muted color papers
    Brown 12" x 12" background page
    Coffee colored pen
    Four Micro Gold Fasteners
    18" hemp
    1/32" circle punch
    Mini glue dots
    Scissors
    Ruler
    Glue

    1. Cut an 8-1/4" square from the solid tan paper and place diagonally on the background paper as shown, then glue in place. Cut the extending right corner even with the background paper. Cut a 5-3/4" x 9" piece of brown paper. Glue this vertically off-set over the tan paper, about 2 -" from the right side of the page.

    2. Punch a hold in each corner of the brown paper through the background paper. Place a gold fastener in each hole. Use the coffee pen to add "rope" penwork to the edges of the tan paper, and add journaling.

    3. Cut hemp into one 12" length, and two 3" lengths. Take the 12" piece and tie a loop about 2" from one end. Make another loop about 1" from the first loop. Continue until you have 5 loops, about 1" apart along the length. Tie a knot in each end. Repeat with the 3" lengths, with one loop in the center of each, and a knot at each end.

    4. Adhere the hemp pieces as with mini glue dots.
