Scrapbooking magazines are a great place to find inspiration. Higgins "borrowed" this design element from a magazine, but altered it to fit her page and personality.

Idea books are available that include borders, clip art, embellishment and layout ideas.

Magazine editor Becky Higgins says keeping an "idea" book is a great way to get inspired when sitting down to crop.

    • Clip page designs or elements from magazines, then tape to a sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" paper. Store in a page protector in a binder, then refer back to your collection when starting a new page.

    • Incorporate design ideas or elements into your page, but don't be afraid to make the page completely unique. Don't try to copy the design exactly. Vary the colors, shapes and textures for a page that expresses your memories, experiences and personality.

    • Check out one of the printed idea books available from most scrapbook companies. There you will find design elements, clip arts, borders and page layout ideas.
