Author and wedding expert Terry Rye turns an ordinary album into a bridal keepsake.

    Materials:

Spiral-bound memory book, photo album, scrapbook or guest book
1-2 yards of decorative moire fabric (depends on book size)
1 stem silk dogwood (or silk flower of choice)
    2 yards 7/8"-wide grosgrain ribbon
    5/8"-wide sheer ribbon
    1 yard quilt batting
    Posterboard
    Fabric glue
    Floral adhesive

    1. Begin by measuring fabric for cover: Measure the height and width, add an inch to all sides and cut two pieces of fabric to size -- one for front and one for back (figure A). Tip: If using a fabric with a pattern or grain, make sure the fabric matches on both pieces.

    2. Create reinforcement for fabric edge by cutting two 1"-wide strips of posterboard the same height as book cover. Turn the fabric down, making sure fabric grain runs top to bottom. Place the posterboard strip 1/2" from the edge of the fabric, making sure it is evenly placed between top and bottom edges.

    3. Apply fabric glue to back of posterboard strip, fold the 1/2" edge of fabric onto the strip and glue into place.

    4. To insert quilt batting, unfold the glued posterboard strip so the fabric once again lies with the wrong side facing up. Cut a piece of quilt batting that is 1/2" shorter than fabric on three sides, with the batting against the inside edge of posterboard strip (figure B).

    5. Fold the posterboard strip over onto the fabric, sandwiching the batting between the strip and fabric. Apply fabric glue along the strip and carefully glue to the cover of the book (figure C). The edge with the posterboard strip should lie next to spiral binding on both front and back. Use a heavy weight to hold in place until glue has set.

    6. Open book and lay cover flat. Apply fabric glue to top and bottom edges of fabric and fold them over onto the inside cover of the book. Smooth fabric into place with fingers until glue has securely anchored fabric to cover. Fold corners to create finished edges and secure with glue.

    7. Cut a piece of posterboard slightly smaller than the inside cover. Cover with a piece of fabric that overlaps the edges by 1". Apply fabric glue to edges and fold them over the back side of the board. Fold corners and glue into place.

    8. Apply fabric glue to the back of the posterboard and glue back to inside of book cover. Place heavy weight on it until glue has dried.

    9. Repeat steps for opposite side of book, both inner and outer covers.

    10. When complete, open book and begin weaving sheer ribbon through spiral binding. Ribbon should be long enough to be woven though entire spiral, hold place as a bookmark and extend about 6" from the bottom of the book.

    11. Cut several 18" lengths of sheer ribbon. Begin threading ribbons under the spiral. Center and tie shoestring bow (figure D). Repeat until spiral binding is covered as desired. Double-knot the loops and trim edges at an angle.

    12. Wrap cover in a length of ribbon and glue ends to center of outside cover (which will be covered by the bow and flowers).

    13. Use grosgrain ribbon to tie bows. Glue a selection of blossoms and ribbon to the front cover to embellish as desired.
