Translucent vellum butterfly shapes become miniature works of art with this technique. Suzanne McNeill demonstrates.

    Materials:

    Dotted vellum
Butterfly pattern from "Magic with Vellum Translucents" (5129) from Design Originals
White and light green 48# vellum
    Lavender cardstock
    Album page
    White 5/8" letter stickers
    Cloud scissors
Punches (here, a film strip border, 1/4" heart and 1/8" circle are used)
    Pastel brush tip markers
    Stylus
    Cardboard

    1. Position dot-vellum on laven-der cardstock

    2. For lace strip, Cut 5/8" strip of White Vellum using Cloud scissors, punch using filmstrip punch. Cut 3/16" ship of Green vellum and weave through punched white. strip. Place on page.

    3. Make a copy of butterfly pat-terns to trace. Place pattern on cardboard, then place vellum right side down on the pattern. Trace pattern with stylus (figure A).

    4. Working on wrong side of embossed vellum, fill design with brush tip markers (figure B).

    5. Cut design from vellum and use to accent album page as desired.

    6. To make photo borders, use cloud scissors to cut vellum, use 1/4" heart punch and 1/8" circle punch to add detail to border. Punch hearts evenly (figure C), then add circles in-between hearts. Use Green vellum as a plain mat behind photos. Position photo, mat and border on page.

    7. To create the lace strips as shown, use cloud scissors to cut 5/8" strip of white vellum. Punch with filmstrip punch. Next, cut 3/16" strip of green vellum and weave through punch white strip as you would weave ribbon (figure D).
