Torn paper -- or punched paper -- is a great way to create flames for campfire embellishments.

Small scraps of jute, twine, cording and other natural fibers can be utilized as rustic page accents.

Look around the house for items that can create unusual effects on your outdoors pages. Lisa Bearnson shares a few of her ideas.

    • To create a "Four-Wheelin" page, Bearnson borrowed a toy truck from one of her children. Bearnson inked the wheels, placed the page on a porous surface, then "drove" right over the paper's surface.

    • To create campfire flames, Bearnson hand tears paper in different shades of red, orange and gold, then layers on the page. Alternately, she suggests punching flames from different shades of cardstock and colored vellum, then using small adhesive foam dots to elevate them from the page and create dimension.

    • Bearnson looks for textural items to use on her outdoors pages. For a fishing page, she uses jute as a rustic accent, while small white cording is used to anchor a tent on another page.
