Get weavin'! Paper weaving is easy when decorative-edged scissors are used. To learn Sandy Laipply's technique, watch this video.

Sandy Laipply uses decorative-edged scissors to create a woven border to accent this family picnic page.

    Materials:

    Family photo
White patterned paper (with pastel squares)
    Green plaid paper
Bright patterned paper (purple squares, turquoise plaid - use the yellow side)
    Fiskars pinking edgers
    Personal Trimmer
    Pencil

    1. First, trim the photo to the desired finished size and mat on yellow plaid. Then, trim mat with extra long pinking edgers.

    2. Next, flip green plaid paper over and draw a line in pencil 1" from the edge. Cut along the pencil line, making sure that the points in the teeth run along the line (to create a straight strip).

    3. To create the second strip, cut pinking from the larger piece of paper.

    4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 on purple square paper (figure A). Cut off the second strip from the larger piece of purple.

    5. Next, begin weaving the two strips. Weave every other "tooth" over and under each other to form woven strips (figure B)

    6. Use extra long pinking shears to cut 2 strips of yellow plaid. Set aside for later use.

    7. Mount matted photo to the page. Leave top and bottom edges free of glue so woven strips can slide underneath.

    8. Then, attach the woven strip to page. Cover top and bottom edges with yellow plaid pieces.

    9. Attach title to page.
