Watch this video to learn how charms can be used to enhance a fall-themed page.

Designer Julie Parker uses charms to embellish her pages year-round. Incorporating charms are a great way to display favorite keepsakes -- although new charms can be chosen to complement the page theme and add embellishment as desired. In this project, leaf charms are used to embellish the multi-layered "Treasures of Autumn" title block.

    Materials:

    Green paper or cardstock
    Tan paper or cardstock
4 paper squares in autumnal colors
    Pencil
    Fine-tipped black marker
    Cotton Swab
    Brown or rust colored chalk
    Tiny hole punch
    Fall charms
    Wire
    Tape

    1. To create the base of the title block, hand-tear the green paper around the edges (figure A).

    2. Cut the tan paper or cardstock smaller than the green paper (so that a green border is exposed), and adhere to green paper.

    3. Arrange and adhere the four color blocks (adjust dimension, if necessary, so that both the green and tan paper extends to create a border around the blocks) to the tan paper (figure B).

    4. Use pencil to write "Treasures of Autumn" on cardstock (hand-torn to dimension smaller that combined area of color blocks). Use marker to trace over the pencil (figure C). Once ink marker has dried, erase any errant pencil marks.

    5. Next, use cotton swab to apply brown or rust chalk around the edges of the "Treasures" panel (figure D). Adding the chalk "ages" the torn edges and creates a patina.

    6. Use tiny hole punch to create charm-sized holes at bottom of "Treasures" panel.

    7. Bend wire into narrow "U" shape (like a hairpin), and string charm onto the wire until it reaches the bent curve.

    8. Then, push both ends of wire through the punched hole. Twist ends (figure E) and press wire flat against the back surface. Use tape to secure the wire and cover sharp ends.

    9. Adhere charmed panel over layered title block and attach to scrapbook page.

    10. Finish page as desired.
