    1. Using 12" x 16" watercolor paper, choose watercolor pencil colors. Because ours was an ocean photo, we used different shades of blues and greens.

    2. Color your background watercolor paper in a checkered board design (figure A).

    3. Once your 12" x 16" sheet is completely colored in, use a foam brush and water to brush over your whole design. Work quickly so the paper will stay wet. Blend and wash over the colors several times to achieve your look (figure B).

    4. Quickly sprinkle table salt over the entire page. Let dry completely.

    5. Once your page has dried, brush or shake off the salt outside or into a trash can or sink. When you remove the salt, you will find that it has created a great texture on your painting.

    6. Trim your background to 12" x 12". Sand the edges and ink.

    7. To create the photo mat: Cut a 9" x 7" piece of cardboard.

    8. Cover the cardboard with the Coastlines patterned paper, folding your edges under.

    9. Sand around the edges.

    10. Mat your photo on sunflower card stock; ink edges and adhere to cardboard mat. Add fibers (figure C).

    11. Add stickers to tag and button, and then adhere to layout.

    12. Adhere photo on top of the tag.

    13. Create the border by printing out words on to sand card stock and cutting into a 12" x 3/4" strip. Then cut into two pieces measuring 8-1/4" x 3/4" and 3-1/2" x 3/4".

    14. Sand edges and ink.

    15. Adhere borders onto Coastlines paper and trim to fit.

    16. Add eyelets and ribbon, and adhere to page. Tie ribbon in a bow and trim off any extra.
