    Figure C

Artist and author Sheila McGraw explains how to create one-of-a-kind art pieces by transferring photocopies to furniture.

    Materials:

Chest of drawers or other piece of furniture
    Permanent black marker
Photocopies of line drawings such as Greek architecture
    Clear transfer blender marker
    Optional: turpentine and brush

    1. Select a quotation or phrase to write on each drawer of the chest. Write the saying across the face of a painted drawer with permanent black marker. Use a free-flowing, casual stroke (figure A).

    2. Place photocopied designs face down on the painted drawer front at odd angles to add to the artistic value. Cover the back of the photocopies with the clear transfer marker, making sure to coat the paper thoroughly. Or use turpentine and a brush to release the ink in the photocopies (figure B).

    3. Burnish the back of the photocopied designs with your fingers.

    4. Lift the paper, and the designs will have been transferred to the drawer (figure C).
