    Figure C

Framing expert Keith Grayhorse of Grayhorse Framing joins DIY Crafts host Mary Lyon to explain how to put a picture in a frame and wire the back for hanging.

    Materials:

    Frame
    Glass
    Matte
    Framing tape
    Artwork
    Corrugated cardboard backing
    Awl
    Hammer
    Picture-hanging screw eyes
    Picture-hanging wire

    1. Apply a piece of framing tape along the top edge of the back of the artwork so that it extends beyond the upper edge of the artwork about half the width of the tape (figure A).

    2. Place the matte over the artwork so the artwork is centered in the opening of the matte. Stick the framing tape to the back of the matte.

    3. Place the matte and artwork on top of the corrugated cardboard backing.

    4. Holding on to all three pieces, turn them over face down on the glass.

    5. Place the frame face down, then place all pieces, glass side down, into it.
    6. Use your fingers to bend the metal brackets on the back of the frame over the cardboard backing to hold everything in the frame (figure B).

    7. Turn the frame face down. Measure from the top of the frame 1/3 of the way down, along each side. Use an awl and a hammer to make a small hole on each side of the frame (figure C).

    8. Screw the screw eyes into both holes. String picture wire between the screw eyes. Now the picture is ready to hang.
