    Figure C

Vicki Payne, host of DIY Crafts, combines a variety of handmade papers, cutouts from magazines and poems from an old book to create decorative collages.

    Materials:

    Matte board
    Picture frame
Variety of images from magazines, quotations from books, poetry, etc.
Selection of handmade paper, gift-wrap, foil, greeting cards, stickers, etc.
Leaves, ferns or other textured materials from nature
    White glue
    Foam brush
    Paper plate
    Artist's brush
    Scissors

    1. Cut a piece of matte board to fit the frame. Vicki used black matte board.

    2. Decide on a theme for the picture, and select images from magazines, poetry or quotations from books. Cut out the images, or tear the edges if desired (figure A).

    3. Cut squares, rectangles, strips, triangles or other shapes from handmade paper, gift-wrap or construction paper.

    4. Arrange the cutouts into the desired design on a piece of matte board. Layer images, paper shapes and leaves or other natural materials (figure B).

    5. Apply white glue to the back of each piece with a foam brush, and glue in place on the matte board; or if you prefer, transfer the pieces to another piece of matte board (figure C).

    6. Place the finished collage in the picture frame.
