 Baby seagrass

Materials:1⁄2 coil baby seagrass (specialty fiber purchased online) crochet hook, US size P scissors measuring tape Complete pattern or steps abbreviations: ch chain sc single crochet sl st slip stitch nx st next stitch inc increase (working 2 stitches of one row into a single stitch of the row before it) dec working 2 stitches together tog together Tip: Placing the coil of seagrass fiber in a wicker basket or other container before you begin will help keep the coil from raveling too quickly and messily as you go. Note: The beginning chain is the center top of the hat, and you work around the beginning center chain with increases in each end. The oval created is the top of the hat. The entire hat is worked in back loops only, from top to sides, then brim.
Round 1: For beginning ch, loosely ch 13. In 2nd ch from hook, sc each st and then sc the back loop only to end of row. Now add 2 c in the 1 st ch, then sc back loops only on the other side of beginning chain as well, at end of row, inc by working 2 sc in last ch. Ch 2 for turning ch (figure A).Round 2: Sc each st, back loops only to end of row, 2 sc at end of row, then sc each st back loops only, and 2 sc at other end as well, ch 2 (26 total st) (figure B).
Round 3: Repeat steps from Round 2 (28 total st) (figure C).Round 4: Repeat steps from Round 2, but now inc by working 2 st into the same st twice at corners (32 total st) The top of hat measures approximately 7"x3" (figure D).
Rounds 5-11: Sc each st, back loops only, do not inc on sides anymore and omit turning ch, now working around and around to the end (this makes it hard to count the st and rows but there is no seam (32 total st). The sides of hat measures approximately 4" in length (figure E).Round 12: *1 sc, inc 1* (inc = working 2 sc into 1 st) back loops only. Repeat this process (54 total st) in this Round. Round 13: Sc each st, back loops only (54 total st). Round 14: *3 sc, inc 1* back loops only, repeat process to the end (72 total st). Rounds 15-17: Sc each st, back loops only (72 total st). Note: If you want a wider brim, add another row of sc (back loops only) here. Fasten off and weave in end.
