Debbie Stapley converts a Chinoiserie paper umbrella into a Victorian-style wastepaper basket. Paper umbrella or parasol Electric drill Thin drill bit Wire pin Round wooden disk Pencil Screw Screwdriver - Open the umbrella to desired width.
- Use pencil to mark umbrella shaft just above inner push ring.
- Hold the umbrella steady and drill a hole in the shaft at pencil mark.
- Push wire pin (figure A) or small dowel through hole to hold umbrella open.
- Mark a point in the center or the wooden disk and drill small hole through the center.
- Go up through hole with screw and use to secure the top of the umbrella to disk.
