Deborah Durham of RIT Dye uses dye to create customized home accessories. Materials: Protective clothing or gloves Liquid dye Hot water Surface cover Foam brush or stencil brush (depending on project) Stir stick Large container, tub or sink Sandpaper
- Use foam brush to apply liquid dye directly to wooden picture frames. (Hot water can dilute color's intensity and help the color set. Add water according to package directions.)
- Tape a stencil to the flat surface of a selected home decor accessory. Use stencil brush to dab dye within stencil lines.(The effect will be somewhat imperfect because of the liquid used.)
- To create a distressed look, apply dye to wooden accessory and allow to dry. Then, lightly sand to remove some of the color and roughen the surface.
- Dye wicker baskets or twig wreaths by submerging piece in dye. Clean up sink or container by washing with bleach.
