Need a new look for your kitchen windows? A quick look though your stash of table linens and dishtowels might be all the inspiration you need for a quick and easy window treatment. Install a curtain rod at the window, and make quick-change window toppers with tablecloths, dishtowels and cloth napkins. Home-improvement expert Christine DeJulio explains how. Dishcloths, tablecloths and cloth napkins can make wonderful window toppers. Drape delicate cloth napkins over a curtain rod, overlapping them and using as many as you need to cover the rod, or use dishtowels for a more tailored look. For a decorative touch, sew a point on the end of each dishtowel before hanging (figure A). To make a simple window treatment, stitch a rod pocket at the top of a folded rectangular tablecloth, and slip it on a curtain rod. Use ribbons to hold the curtain up, and remove them to let the curtain fall straight when you want more privacy. For a no-sew treatment, try swagging a lacy tablecloth over the rod (figure B), or fold a plaid or plain tablecloth diagonally, and drape it over the rod (figure C). Stick a piece of rolled masking tape between the points to keep the fabric in place.
