If you're looking for a creative way to add some life to your next party, Party at Home host Heidi Bohay suggests hiring a professional dance instructor who can encourage even the most timid guests out of their shells. She joins John Cassese, a.k.a. the Dance Doctor, who makes house calls to teach party guests the latest dance steps that get the energy moving and the endorphins flowing. Even if it seems like you are lacking in natural-born rhythm, Cassese assures us that anyone can learn how to dance. In any party situation, there will be those who are confident and positive about their dancing experience, and others who are a bit shyer. With a little encouragement from the Dance Doctor, these wallflowers can usually be tempted to come out onto the dance floor and relax into the rhythm. Cassese says that there are a wide variety of dancing styles and instructors to fit any given party theme. To find the right one, he recommends consulting a friend who has already had dance lessons. In addition, most instructors offer a complimentary evaluation lesson so that you can get a feel for their particular teaching style and ability. If you want professional dance instruction at your next party, be sure to prepare the room accordingly. Move the furniture to the outside perimeter so there's plenty of space for swirling and twirling (figure A). If you don't have smooth hardwood floors, there are portable dance floors available at most party rental stores. At roughly $200, a floor measuring 12' by 15' would provide enough area for four to five couples to dance the night away. So if you have never experienced a dance-instruction party before, give it a whirl and host one yourself. Everyone will be able to participate in a fun, relaxing activity while sharing an unforgettable evening.
