The key to roping is the twirling of the rope between the fingers as the rope circles. The hondo, or knot, determines the roping pattern.

Trick roping, an inexpensive hobby requiring only a rope and a bag of tricks, brings out the Wild West in hobbyists regardless of where they live!

Will Rogers inspired hobbyist Keith O'Hara to take up trick roping. During his childhood, O'Hara's parents frequently visited Rogers's ranch, where the boy would pick up pointers and learn tricks from expert ropers.

O'Hara didn't seriously pursue the hobby until later in life and, after a few years of practice, became proficient in trick roping.
