 Spiced Indonesian Fruit Salad (Kujak)

Ingredients: 1/4 tsp. shrimp paste 2-3 chili peppers 1 Tbs. palm sugar (or you can substitute dark brown sugar) 1/2 tsp. salt 1 Tbs. tamarind water 1 Tbs. sweet soy sauce 1 orange, peeled and quartered 1 cucumber, peeled, seeded and sliced 1 pear, cut into wedges 1/2 pineapple, cut into wedges 1 mango, peeled and cut into wedges 1/2 papaya, cut into wedges 12 lychees (LEE-chee -- Chinese fruit; when dried, often referred to as litchi nuts), halved 1/2 cup French-style green beans, blanched Preparation: Combine shrimp paste, chopped chili peppers, palm sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, tamarind water and sweet soy sauce in food processor; blend to a semiliquid mixture. In a large bowl, combine orange quarters, cucumber slices, pear, pineapple, mango, papaya and lychees; pour liquid mixture over fruit and toss thoroughly. Top with French-style green beans.
