The kids took old unscratched CD cases, removed the paper jacket and inserted their own pictures. They decorated the outside and voila, there's a new star in town.

    Materials for CD-case picture frame:

CD jewel case -- the case the CD comes in
    Hot glue
    Magnet strips or dots
    Scissors and specialty scissors
    Construction paper
    Puffy paint
    Glue stick
    Pencil
    Markers
    Pictures
    Paint pens
    Baubles

    1. Take an old CD jewel case that is not scratched up.

    2. Pop open the middle piece where the CD sits, take out the back jacket (figure A) and replace the middle piece.

    3. Trace the outline of the front CD flap on your picture so you will know how big it needs to be (jewel cases measure 4 3/4" by 4 11/16"). Cut to fit frame (figure B).

    4. If your picture is not big enough, cut a piece of construction paper to fit.

    5. Glue picture to paper, centering it so it will look nice (figure C).

    6. Then slide the picture in the little tabs and shut the case.

    7. Next hot-glue the magnets (figure D) on the back side and let cool.

    8. Decorate the front of the case as desired with paint pens or puffy paint, or by gluing on trinkets.

    9. Stick on refrigerator or any magnetic surface.

    Tips:

    • Safety comes first. Always have an adult around with hot glue.

    • You can use many different brands of puffy paint or paint pens.
