    Tips:

    • Did you know? High-top basketball sneakers are the footwear of choice among many roofing professionals for their soft soles and ankle protection.

    • An extraordinary amount of asphalt granules washing off your roof could indicate that your shingles are balding and should be checked by a professional.

    • Wildfires often spread to houses by dropping burning debris onto a home's roof. If your roof is covered with asphalt or wood shingles, consider replacing them with fire-resistant metal, tile or slate.

    • Although fiberglass ladders are expensive, they are also the safest because they combine the stiffness of aluminum with nonconductive properties of dry wood.

    • Be careful with heat sources near your vinyl siding. Barbecue grills and patio torches have ample capacity to melt vinyl if they're placed too close.

    • In order to achieve the best bond with aluminum siding, paint must be allowed to dry slowly. If at all possible, avoid painting aluminum on windy days or in direct sunlight.
