DIY Photography hostc A standard off-camera flash (figure A) allows you to light the subject from in front or bounce the light off the ceiling, but the photo will look a little harsh. A flash diffuser (figure B) attaches to the flash and softens the light, rendering studio-quality light. A gold diffuser (figure C) produces a warm light that resembles late-afternoon light. You'll get deeper reds and oranges. A flash extender (figure D) magnifies each flash and throws it farther. It's a perfect accessory for shooting school plays or wildlife. The ultimate totally cool accessory? Extra batteries. Always make sure to carry a spare.
