With the new carpet, molding, lighting and ceiling fans installed, the final phase of the sports-den remodel is to accessorize the room. Final touches are added to the converted boathouse in the form of wall decoration, new window treatments, furniture and accessories.
- The old slat blinds are replaced with matchstick blinds (figure A) to augment the boathouse feel of this sports-den retreat.
- A round table and chairs are added.
- Also in keeping with the Florida boathouse feel of the location, some of the wall art includes framed fishing prints (figure B).
- One of the highlights in terms of the new furnishings is an antique armoire that is converted into a bar set and wine rack (figure C).
- With a few structural modifications -- like hanging glass-holders (figure D), shelving and storage bays for bottles of wine -- this attractive piece of furniture doubles as a wet bar ideal for serving and entertaining guests.
- A photo montage of Johnny Damon was created by enlarging a photograph of Johnny at bat, cutting the poster-sized enlargement into six equally sized sections, framing each section individually and hanging them all adjacent to one another to "reassemble" the image (figure E).
- Another creative take on wall decoration is Johnny's first team-jersey, attractively framed and matted (figure F).
- Other career memorabilia included baseball hats and team pendants from all the teams for which Johnny has played -- the Boston Red Sox, the Oakland A's and the Kansas City Royals.
- Room furnishings were selected in rich, darker tones, and the room lighting was kept subdued for a warm, comfortable feel (figure G).
According to proud new owner Johnny Damon, he plans to spend a great deal of time entertaining friends and watching games on TV in his custom-designed sports den -- but not during the World Series. He intends to be playing in that.
