    You can transform your regular mower into mulching mower by installing a mulching kit. The kit will include a mulching blade (figure A) contoured to circulate and shred the grass clippings under the mower deck.

    Before putting your mower away for the winter, disconnect and remove the spark plug. If the plug is still fairly new, clean it and replace it. Otherwise, install a new one.

    Drain the gas tank before storing the mower. When gasoline is stored for a long time, it can congeal or accumulate water.

    Check the throttle cable and deadman cable to make sure both are intact, and examine the starter cable to make sure it isn't frayed.

    Drain and replace the oil every year. Simply remove the drain plug from beneath the mower (figure B), and drain the oil into an environmentally safe container. Take the oil to a recycling center for disposal.
