    Materials:

    rice paper
    wood glue
    Papasan base
    Papasan stool
    drywall screws
    1/4" luan
    2-bulb light socket
    wire
    light switch
    plug
    screw gun
    jigsaw
    staple gun
    finishing nailer
    pry bar
    hammer
    pliers

    1. Remove the "U" shaped supports from the Papasan stool using a hammer and pry bar (figure A). Pull out the leftover staples using pliers.

    2. Remove the cross lattice at the top of the stool. Make a stress cut with the jigsaw (figure B), and then use a hammer and pry bar to remove it.

    3. Snip the nails that are left behind using side cut pliers.

    4. Place the Papasan base on a piece of luan with the widest end facing down. Trace around the outside edge of the base with a pencil.

    5. Cut out the circle using a jig saw.

    6. Set the light fixture into place on the center of the circle (figure C). Mark and transfer the mounting holes found on the bracket.

    7. Using the proper drill bit, drill out holes for mounting bolts. Drill out the center for the electrical cord.

    8. Cut six pieces of rice paper to the general size of each panel.

    9. Using a staple gun—one at a time—staple the paper to the interior of each panel on the backside of the base, and then trim off the excess using a knife.

    10. Place the stool on a sheet of rice paper, and then mark the interior circumference.

    11. Cut the circle out of the paper.

    12. Remove a portion of the spiral from the Papasan seat using a hammer.

    13. Cut the piece to size, and then nail it to the inside of the narrow end of the footstool, creating an interior lip.

    14. Staple the paper circle to the backside of the new "mounting lip" (figure D).

    15. Using glue and a nail gun (figure E), center and attach the footstool to the circle backer board, followed by the chair base.
