It was time for this '70s era tub to go!
|
|
Continuing on with our bathroom demolition, it was time to remove the cast-iron tub. These tubs are big, heavy and built-in. It was too heavy to lift, so we broke it into pieces using a sledgehammer.

A tired '70s style bathroom is...

 transformed into elegance and beauty.

1. Before we started swinging, we turned off the water supply and disconnected the drain (figure A).2. You would think thered be a more technical way to get rid of an old cast-iron tub, but in fact, the good old sledgehammer and some serious muscle power is just about the only solution (figure B).
Safety Alert: Its critical to wear long sleeves, gloves and eye protection when doing this work. The sledgehammer smashes apart the brittle porcelain surface on the iron tub and the little pieces of porcelain go flying in all directions.
