Craft expert Meg Licursi offers a nonconventional approach to stained glass with this stained-glass inlay pin. Licursi combines traditional techniques with modern materials to create a dimensional yet wearable work of art.

    Materials:

    Colored glass, in various shades
    Glass nipper
    Foil Mate (TM)
    Large, flat craft brushes
    Glass inlay glue
    Glass nipper
    Gallery glasses
    Large glass beads
    Paper towels
    Baby wipes
    Plastic bags
    Disposable plate or bowl
    Toothpicks
    Cotton swabs
    Jewelry pin

    1. Select 2 or 3 pieces of colored glass to be used for the pin. Cover the nipper and glass with a plastic bag (to contain any flying glass fragments) and snap glass into smaller pieces (figure A).

    2. Measure and cut a length of foil to fit around each piece of glass (figure B).

    3. Peel back length of foil to reveal the adhesive side and gently wrap around entire piece of glass.

    4. Use the Foil Mate to burnish the foil to the sides of the glass chip (figure C).

    5. Crimp the foil trim on all four sides using the Foil Mate. Simply fit the piece into the grooved part and run the Foil Mate around the entire piece. Lay glass flat and use the tool to press any remaining edges down for a finished look.

    6. Pour a small amount of glue into a disposable plate or bowl and use flat brush to apply glue to the back of each piece. Stack or assemble as desired. Use a cotton swab to remove any excess.

    7. Embellish with a bead (figure D) and fasten a pinback to back. Allow piece to dry for at least 24 hours.
