  • Home Improvement Quick-Tip: Adjusting Folding Doors
  • From "Ask DIY"
    episode ADI-503
    advertisement

If your bi-fold closet doors are sticking or not operating properly, it may be because they have come out of proper alignment. Here are some suggestions for getting your folding doors back on track.

    • Look at the tracks at the tops of the doors. You may need to loosen the set-screws on the brackets, and slide the brackets in the track to adjust the space at the top of the doors. Once you've made the necessary adjustment, re-tighten the screw and check the doors to see if they operate more easily.

    • Check the bottom brackets also. Although there may be some variation among types of doors, most have a pin that drops into a notch to adjust the vertical gap and the spacing between the bottom of the door and the floor.

    • You can also adjust the height of the doors by adjusting how far the bottom pin is screwed into the doors.
