Crafter Ron Perkins explains how to create gift baskets with several different themes--ranging from an Italian dinner to everything a sports fan needs to watch the big game.

    Gourmet Gift Basket

    Materials:

    Large wicker basket
    Brie cheese
    Jar of caviar
    Bottle of wine
    Smoked sausage
    Gourmet cookies and crackers
    Faux grapes
    Wire
    Brown kraft paper
    Newspaper
    Decorative straw basket filler
    Package of decorative paper plates
    Paper napkins
    Box of crackers
    Gift card
    Bow
    Cellophane
    Transparent tape

    1. Decorate the handle by wiring a bunch of faux grapes to the side.
    2. The basket looks better when the items filling it are placed high. Create a base to go inside the basket by wrapping kraft paper around stacked newspapers folded to fit inside the basket. Place the base in the bottom of the basket (figure A) .
    3. Place decorative straw basket filler on top of the base.
    4. Arrange items inside the basket by placing heavier, taller items around the back and smaller items in front. Place a bottle of wine in back. Place a package of paper plates on end behind the wine bottle. Stand paper napkins on end, resting against the package of paper plates (figure B).
    5. Add boxes of crackers and cookies placed on end in the back of the basket. Snuggle a sausage roll into the straw. Place smaller items in the straw at the front of the basket (figure C).
    6. Cut a piece of cellophane about 7' long. At least 1' should extend above the basket.
    7. Wrap the basket by placing it in the middle of the cellophane and bringing the ends up on top. Gather the ends, and tape the cellophane together (figure D).
    8. Scrunch the top of the cellophane together, and fluff it out so it will stand up.
    9. Fold the sides of the cellophane to the back and tape them.
    10. Wire a bow around the gathering at the top of the basket.
    Italian Dinner Basket

Treat your friends to an Italian dinner by giving them all the ingredients they need. Fill a colander with packaged pasta, spaghetti sauce, garlic bread, cheese and red-and-white-checked napkins (figure E).

    Sports-Fan Basket

This gift basket is the couch potato's dream. It contains beer, chips, pretzels, peanuts and everything a fan needs for a weekend of watching sports on TV (figure F).
