Bring a meal together with a floral centerpiece that lends an elegant touch to any brunch table.
Floral CenterpiecesMaterials: floral containers (we used cork pots made to look like tree trunks; you could also use clay, plastic or wood pots) floral foam for fresh flowers (not the dried and artificial flower foam) large-bloomed flowers, such as hydrangeas stalk flowers, such as delphiniums additional delicate accent flowers, such as Queen Anne's lace 1. Cut the floral foam to fit the container (figure A). 2. Soak the foam in a sink or bucket. 3. Place the foam in the container (figure B).
4. Cut hydrangeas to extend just higher than the containers. Sink the stems into the foam. Add delphiniums and Queen Anne's lace to complete the arrangement (figure C).
Birds' Nest Party FavorsWhen a sweet bride has a sweet tooth, tempt her with a little white chocolate treat. Materials: 2" diameter twig birds' nests, purchased at craft or floral stores tea lights velvet ribbon 4" diameter twig birds' nests bird-shaped candy or soap mold white chocolate double boiler Jordan almonds tulle, cut into 16" squares ribbon 1. Make candle favors by tying velvet ribbon around a tea light. Insert into birds' nest (figure D). 2. To make a chocolate bird and nest, melt white chocolate in a double boiler. 3. Pour into bird-shaped candy or soap mold.
4. Allow to cool, then pop out of the mold (figure E).
5. Place shredded paper in 4" nest. Add a chocolate bird and some Jordan almonds as "eggs" (figure F). 6. Place each nest on 16" tulle square. Gather tulle and tie around the nest with ribbon (figure G).
Ribbon-Laced TableclothThe final touch on a brunch table is the tablecloth itself. This simple technique adds a bit of personal flair and style. Materials: 60" wide faux suede, cut 2 times the length of the dining table iron-on hem tape 1" wide blue painter's tape ruler pen craft knife self-healing mat 1" wide ribbon, 3 times the length of the dining table 1. Hem the suede edges by folding in each side 1" and ironing on hem tape (figure H). 2. Place the fabric on the table and apply painter's tape down each side length, approximately 6" from the edge of the table. 3. Using the ruler and pen, mark 1" increments down the length of each taped line. 4. Protecting the table surface with a self-healing mat, slit the tape at each mark. Work down the length of the table on both sides.
Remove the tape and lace the ribbon through the slits. Gather and cinch cloth where it drapes off the table by pulling on the ribbon and tying in a bow (figure I).
