    Figure A
    Kuba Cloth Inspired Wall Hanging

    Designed by Lisa Shepard Stewart.

    Materials:

    burlap in neutral tones
HTCW Trans Web paper-backed fusible web
    Stitch Witchery fusible tape
    fabric glue
    steam iron
    decorative threads or yarns (optional)
curtain rod or tree branch — length of finished wall hanging width

    1. Cut backing fabric to desired size. Stabilize with fusible interfacing. Hem the raw edges using fusible tape.

    2. Apply fusible web to the burlap for the applique (2-3 neutral shades).

    3. Cut applique shapes from the fabric.

    4. Arrange and fuse appliques into place (figure A).

    5. If desired, outline the appliqué shapes with large running hand stitches in textured yarn or heavy threads.

    6. Installation of curtain rod and headboard on the wall at desired height.

    Tips:

    • Try some of those fancy decorative sewing machine stitches around each applique for a more authentic look.

    • Cut larger shapes; shapes that are too small get "lost" in the design.
