 Use a bamboo shade and some mudcloth to create these unique placemats and matching table runner.

Bamboo and Mudcloth Table SettingProject designed by Lisa Shepard Stewart. Materials: bamboo window shade approximately 36" wide x 72" long (yields 1 runner and 4 mats) mudcloth strips (approximately 10 yards total length) fabric glue coordinating napkin fabric cotton jacquard batik Stitch Witchery fusible tape - Determine the desired length and width for runner and placemats; cut window shade 8" longer than this measurement. Cut strings and remove 4" of loose bamboo slats at each end. Tie the strings to keep the bamboo slats in place.
- Cut strips of mudcloth to the lengths and width of the runner and mats, plus 1". Turn under and glue 1/2" on each strip (figure A).
- Fold mudcloth strips in half lengthwise, and encase raw edges of runner and mats. Glue in place, taking care to glue the edges carefully.
- Cut fabric for napkins into 18" squares. Turn under a narrow hem of 1/8". Fuse edges using fusible tape.
