Custom pillowcases add a decorator touch to any bedroom. Mary O'Neil, founder of Hot Potatoes Rubber Stamps, shows three easy ways to rubber-stamp plain pillowcases. Materials: Cotton pillowcases (not necessary to launder beforehand) Fabric paint Foam brush Paper plate Large-image rubber stamps Cardboard - Place a piece of cardboard inside the pillowcase so the fabric paint won't stamp through to the other side.
- Pour fabric paint onto a paper plate.
- Load paint onto a large-image rubber stamp with a foam brush.
- Stamp the image onto the pillowcase. Use different colors and images placed randomly on the pillowcase (figure A).
Monogram-Stamped Pillowcase Materials: Cotton pillowcase Harlequin frame rubber stamp Letter rubber stamp Black fabric paint Red fabric paint Foam brush Paper plate Cotton swabs Cardboard - Place a piece of cardboard inside the pillowcase so the paint won't bleed through to the other side.
- Pour black fabric paint onto one paper plate and red fabric paint onto another.
- Load black fabric paint onto the Harlequin frame rubber stamp, and stamp the image onto the pillowcase (figure B).
- Load red fabric paint onto the letter rubber stamp, and stamp the image onto the pillowcase (figure C).
Bleached Stamping Technique Materials: Dark-colored cotton pillowcase Household cleaner containing bleach Paper plate Foam brush Leaf rubber stamp Cardboard - Place a piece of cardboard inside the pillowcase so the paint won't stamp through to the other side.
- Pour a household cleaner that contains bleach onto a paper plate. Use a foam brush to load the rubber stamp with cleaner.
- Stamp the cleaner onto the pillowcase. Let it dry completely, then launder the pillowcase (figure D).
