Keep on top of things with style.
Everyone agrees that getting organized is important, but it’s usually not a lot of fun. Or at least it wasn’t, until Michele Beschen tackled the problem. The B. Original host’s solution: a funky magnetic calendar made with tape and an oil drip pan.

This industrial-look wall calendar is easy to make and fun to keep up to date. Once you start using it, you may even find more time in your day to B. Original.

    Magnetic Wall Calendar

    Materials:

    large metal pan or tray
    rubbing alcohol
    various rolls of tape
    scissors
    sharp knife
    magnetic tape
popsicle sticks, craft sticks or small pieces of hobby wood
    label maker

    • Michele Beschen used a large drip pan for this project – the kind used for oil changes. They’re available at auto supply stores and large discount stores.

    • Clean the tray with rubbing alcohol and let the alcohol evaporate.

    • Adhere strips of tape to the tray to create a calendar grid. Michele Beschen recommends using graphic art tape, electrical tape or auto pinstriping tape (figure A). The
simplest way to lay out the grid is to stick the tape in the proper position, then trim the ends with a large craft knife (figure B).

    • Burnish the tape down securely.

    • To make magnetic markers for the calendar, gather a collection of thin pieces of wood: popsicle sticks, tongue depressors, craft sticks or various wood shapes from the hobby store.

    • Create magnetic markers for months (figure C), days and dates as well as for anything you need to put on the calendar regularly (figure D). Decorate one side of the marker pieces with paint, markers or tape. Use rubber stamps, a label maker or permanent markers to add appropriate lettering to each marker.

    • Apply a piece of magnetic tape to the back of each marker.

    • Hang the calendar, stick your magnet markers in place and admire your work. It’s fun to be organized – if you can B. Original at the same time.
