Top a table in style with nylon mesh.
Nylon netting isn't just for catching fish—it can catch compliments as well, when you use it to dress up your home's décor.

Michele Beschen shows how to use nylon mesh to top tables for a sophisticated look and create beautiful, billowy window treatments. Since she's using nylon netting, the finished projects are both durable and washable—which makes them even more beautiful.

Scroll down to see how easy it is to B. Original with nylon netting around the house.

    Mesh Table Topper

    Materials:

    1/2" nylon mesh
    scissors
    beads, clip-on earrings, brooches

    • Lay the mesh out flat and cut a piece measuring 60 meshes by 100 meshes (figure A). These dimensions make a topper for a 90" circular table; adjust the measurements for tables of different sizes.

    • Dye the mesh, if desired. The nylon mesh takes dye very well, and standard dyes from the grocery store work fine.

    • Rinse off the nylon and let it dry, then lay it over the table.

    • Drape the mesh to get the desired effect, clipping it with clip-on earrings or brooches (figure B).

    Mesh Window Treatment

    Materials:

    1/2" nylon mesh
    ribbon
    curtain rod
    clip-on earrings, other embellishments

    • Examine the mesh to see how it hangs, and determine how much it will take to cover the window.

    • Cut a piece of mesh large enough to cover the window and drape the way you want. Even though there isn't a specific measurement for this project, lay the mesh flat when cutting to get an even line.

    • Dye the mesh, if desired.

    • Thread ribbon through the mesh to give the window treatment shape. Michele Beschen threaded her ribbon from the top of the mesh down to the bottom, then across to gather the mesh into scallops, then back up to the top (figure C)

    • Weave a curtain rod through the mesh near the top
      (figure D) and hang.

    • Once the mesh is hung, add decorative touches such as clip-on earrings or other embellishments.
