    From "B. Original"
    episode DBOR-206

Make these tiny treasures from old floppy disks.
Floppy disks—once the center of a computer user's universe—are becoming less and less useful as documents get bigger and computers get more powerful. But don't toss out that box of floppies you haven't looked at since the '90s: Michele Beschen can show you how to recycle them into fun memo books and tiny booklets.

The B. Original host shows how to recycle entire floppies into a retro-techie notebook and turn the silver tabs from floppies into charming micro-booklets and festive place cards. Scroll down for Michele Beschen's easy how-to, and get some use out of those disused disks again.

Old floppies are the perfect covers for pocket-size memo books.
    Floppy Disk Books

    • Trim paper or card stock slightly smaller than one of the floppy disks.

    • Clear the two holes at the edges of each disk. You may need to move the disk lock tab to do this.

    • Position one disk over the paper and make a mark through the two edge holes in the disk.

    • Punch corresponding holes in the paper.

    • Sandwich the paper between two floppy disks and run loose-leaf rings through the holes.

    • Dress up your mini-book with labels or a collage.

    Floppy Disk Micro-Booklet

    • Take a floppy disk apart and set aside all of the parts except for the silver tab (figure A).

    • Cut several small pieces of paper to the same size as the silver tab (figure B). Use double-stick tape to attach the paper inside the tab.

    • Engrave the silver booklet cover, if desired.

    • Drill a small hole through the silver tab and add a jump ring (figure C). Now, you can hang the booklet from a keychain, necklace or pendant.

    • Add other embellishments as desired (figure D) You can create a tiny library of micro-books!

You also can use old floppies when entertaining: Turn them on their sides, embellish them and put little name plates inside to create fun and inexpensive place cards for your next party
