Materials:9" or larger clear glass plates laser color copies of playing cards découpage glue disposable paintbrushes silver metallic spray paint clear spray varnish scissors 1. Trim the card color copies (figure A).
2. Turn a plate over and apply découpage glue to the back of the plate (figure B). Place a copied card (color side down) on the plate. Apply more glue to the back of the card; use your fingers to press out any air bubbles (figure C). Add additional cards to the plate, if desired. Set plate aside to dry.
3. Once the glue is dry, use blue painter's tape to tape off the edge of the plate (front only); the tape will prevent possible overspray while you're painting the back of the plates (figure D). 4. Working on old newspapers, turn the plate upside down and apply 3 coats of silver metallic spray paint, according to paint directions (figure E). Let dry before topcoating with several coats of clear spray varnish. Let the varnish dry before removing the painter's tape (figure F).
5. These decorative plates cannot be washed in a dishwasher. Hand wash with care; do not soak in water.6. You can make skewers or stirrers for a party by using the same dice drilling technique used to make the dice bracelet; thread dice and beads onto a cocktail stirrer or skewer and secure with glue (figure G). 7. Drink charms can be made with laser copies of playing cards that have been shrunk down or with small cards found at toy stores. Laminate the cards, add a small scrapbook eyelet, thread onto circular ear wires or cocktail charm blanks and add decorative beads (figure H).
