    Playing Card Purse
    Materials:

deck of old playing cards (26 needed)
    hole punch
    3/16" eyelets (154 needed)
1/4" decorative red ribbon (7 yds.)
    yarn or plastic canvas needle
    scissors
    laminating sheets
2 sheets of 8-1/2"x11" decorative paper
2 sheets of 4-1/4"x8-1/2" decorative paper
1 sheet of 4-1/4"x11" decorative paper
    glue stick
two 10" lengths of 1/4" diameter clear plastic tubing
    1/8" dowel or bamboo skewer

    1. Purse front and back: Glue 8 cards to an 8-1/2"x11" sheet of decorative paper (figure A). Repeat the process on a second sheet. Laminate the sheets and trim away any excess lamination around the edges.

    2. Purse bottom: Glue 4 cards across a 4-1/4"x11" sheet of paper. Laminate the sheet and trim away any excess lamination around the edges (figure B).

    3. Purse sides: Glue 3 cards to two 4-1/4"x8-1/2" sheets of paper. Laminate the sheets and trim away any excess lamination around the edges ( figure C).

    4. Mark the placement of each eyelet with a marking pen. Using an eyelet hole punch and an eyelet setter, attach the eyelets. On the sides of each 11" panel, set the first eyelet 1/2" from the edge; set 11 eyelets total, spaced 1" apart. On the sides of the panels that measure 4-1/4", set each of the 4 eyelets 5/8" from the edge, spaced 1" apart. For the sides of the 8-1/2" panels, set the first eyelet 3/4" from the edge. Set the remaining 8 eyelets 1" apart (figure D).

    5. Thread 1/4" ribbon through a yarn or plastic canvas needle. Beginning with the purse, lace the front and sides together with the ribbon. At the first hole, leave a 5" tail of ribbon at the back to use for tying later. Lace through one side panel eyelet and through a front panel eyelet; repeat for security. Whipstitch the remaining holes together (figure E). Decorative lacing can be done at the top edges, where no panels are laced together. Continue lacing, adding the remaining side and back. After the panels have been laced together, tie off the end of the ribbon after lacing it twice through the last hole.

    6. Next, using the same technique, lace the bottom to the purse.

    7. To make a handle, thread a length of 1/4" ribbon through each length of tubing by folding a ribbon end over a dowel or skewer and pushing it through the tubing (figure F). Tie each end of the ribbon through an eyelet at the top of the purse to secure the handle.
