Its hurricane season in Michele Beschens gardenshurricane lamp season, that is. The B. Original host creates a charming vignette garden planting indoors, using hurricane lamps to protect the plants and add visual interest.Unlike Michele Beschens terrarium project, this arrangement doesnt seal the plants in. It may need a bit more TLC than terrarium plants, but the vignette garden makes up for it with beauty and versatility. Scroll down for the B. Original how-to.
Vignette Garden- Line a chip-and-dip basket with plastic, such as a garbage bag.
- Weight the plastic down with gravel; this will help with drainage (figure A). Trim away any excess plastic.
- Add potting mix, and youre ready to plant (figure B). Moisten the soil a bit before arranging your plants; use taller plants in back and smaller ones toward the front
(figure C).
Add more soil as needed.Once your plants are arranged and in place, cover them with some hurricane lamps or clear glass lamp covers (figure D). You can dress things up further by covering up the dirt with moss and by adding candles (in hurricane lamps) to the arrangement (figure E).
Give your plants a bit more water, and add any additional creative touches you would like. Now youve got a beautiful garden under glass!
