Terrific Terrariumsterrarium container gravel, decorative rock or sand potting mix charcoal humidity-loving plants Note: Your terrarium container should be glass and have an opening you can fit your hand through. Dont be afraid to look for unique containers.
- Make sure your container is clean and dry, then spread a layer of rock, sand or pebbles about 1" thick (figure A).
- Add a 1" layer of charcoal (figure B). This will absorb any odors in the closed environment.
- Add a layer of potting mix. The potting mix should be nice and light for good drainage; make this layer a little more than 1" thick.
- Add water to moisten the soil. Dig a small hole to accommodate the plant.
- Take the plant from its existing container. Trim the plant if needed and remove any excess soil, then insert it into the terrarium and pack potting mix around it.
- Top the terrarium off with some more rock to cover up the soil, plus some moss if you want additional greenery (figure C).
- Give the plants a bit more water, clean your glass and cap the container.
