Say goodbye to boring crayons! Use a variety of containers and candy molds to remold them into any shape you wish.
Materials:kitchen knife old crayons large pan old pencil random recycled food jars molds: muffin tins, small cake tins or candy molds
1. Fill the pan with a small amount of water and heat on low. This will serve as a double boiler once the jars are in the pan.2. Remove the paper from around the crayons and chop them into 1/4" pieces. Sort the colors by color family (figure A). (If you mix the colors all together, once the crayons are all melted, you'll end up with brown.) 3. Place the chopped crayon bits into the jars; place the jars in the warm water to melt the crayons (figure B). (The water should be halfway up the jars.)
4. Use an old pencil to stir the crayons as they melt (figure C).5. Once the wax is melted, pour it into the molds (figure D). You can fill the mold with one color, or you can layer the colors by pouring a small amount of one in the mold, allowing it to cool, adding the next color and repeating until the mold is filled.
6. Allow the molds to cool, and pop the crayons out. If you're having trouble, place the mold in the freezer for about 20 minutes. The crayons should pop right out.
