    Materials (figure A):

Sheets of Dutch metal (enough to cover the selected pot; the sheets are 5" x 5" [figure B] and are purchased in a 25-pack. So depending on the size of the pots, the number of sheets will vary. But you'll need to make the initial purchase of the 25-sheet pack.)
    Gold-leaf sizing adhesive
Artist's paintbrush (small artist brush for applying sizing to the detailed areas of the relief -- a #4 would work -- 1-1/2" to 2" disposable brush)
Soft brush (a gilder's mop or a blush brush from the corner drugstore will work well)
Sealer (clear sealer -- guest prefers Deft's high-gloss 30-minute wood finish)

    1. Prepare the pot. Lightly brush area to be metal-leafed with gold-leaf sizing adhesive (figure C). Allow to dry until tacky.

    2. Position the leaf.Carefully place metal leaf over sized area. Gently brush the leaf from the center out, smoothing it over the sizing. Brush away any excess. Repeat process until entire area is covered (figure D). Allow to dry.

    3. Sealing the leaf. The metal-leafed surface needs to be sealed to prevent discoloration of the metal. A clear spray or brush-on sealer can be applied. Apply from 2 to 3 coats, allowing each application to dry thoroughly before applying the next coat.

Products: Available at craft, art and discount stores nationwide.
