    Materials:

Soft-sided black luggage (works best if it has a flat zipper compartment)
    Stencil design # 2437 ("Brassiere," from L.A.Stencilworks)
    2 oz. craft paints:

    • Americana Boysenberry Pink DA29
    • Americana Dazziling Metallics Glorious Gold DA71
    • Folk Art Licorice 938
    • Delta White 02505
    • Delta Ivory 02036

Stencil brushes (one for each color)

    • 1-1/4" -- White
    • 1" -- Boysenberry Pink
    • 5/8" -- Ivory
    • 5/8" -- Licorice
    • 3/8" -- Glorious Gold

    Paper towels
Paper or plastic plates for the palette
Chalk pencil (available at fabric stores)
    Masking tape
Rigid surface (e.g., cardboard or large book, to be used inside the compartment you are stenciling on)
    Fine-point black permanent-marker pen

    1. Place a rigid surface directly under the layer you're going to stencil.

    2. Position stencil and tape securely in place (figure A). Use a chalk pencil to mark the registration marks.

    3. Use the white paint to white out entire pattern (all overlays). Using largest brush, dip it in paint, then rub off most of the paint on a paper towel. (This ensures the brush is dry to the touch -- if it's too wet, the paint may leak under the stencil edges.) You may need more than one light coat; if so, let dry between coats.

    4. Reposition each overlay and stencil in the colors. Remember to blot (figure B) the paint so the brush is dry. On the bra cup, stencil from the edge inward, leaving the center a little lighter. Stencil the remaining areas solid. Body of the bra and straps are pink, the rings are gold, the lace is ivory with pink dots and the bow is licorice.

    5. Again reposition each overlay to shade. Use licorice paint (rub off on paper towel so there is almost no color left on the brush). Shading is done just along the edges.

    6. Shade around edge of bra cup (figure C). Shade the straps where they meet the rings and the body of the bra, also the underside of the two places where the straps twist. Shade along the top and bottom edge on the bra back and the front section (not where they attach to the cup).

    7. Use a fine-point black permanent-marker pen to touch up any of the white undercoat.
