This decorative box, which utilizes paint and polymer clay, is a good beginner project that creates a dramatic Asian look. Materials: Block of gold polymer clay Block of black polymer clay Two 12" bamboo skewers Papier mache box Black enamel spray paint Aluminum foil Glue gun - Use black spray enamel to paint entire box; allow to dry thoroughly.
- Work both colors of polymer clay to soften.
- Cut or roll several small strips of black clay and add to sheet of gold. Roll the two together to create a marbled look.
- Shape clay into 2 balls, place on sheet of aluminum foil and press down slightly.
- Work gold clay and 1/8 of a block of black clay separately to soften.
- Use pointed end of one skewer to create tunnels through the middle of the clay ball.
- Cut or break the other skewer into 4 pieces and run them through the prepared tunnels, crossing them for decorative effect (figure A).
- Bake according to manufacturer's instructions. When handle has cooled, use hot glue to attach to the top of the box.
