Creativity expert Courtney Watkins uses decoupage medium and vintage paperback book covers to turn ordinary wooden boxes into dramatic decorative statements. Materials: Vintage paperback White glue Scissors or craft knife Wooden or cardboard box Matte or gloss medium 4 large beads (all same size) Multipurpose cement glue Handle or bead - Use craft knife or scissors to remove covers of book close to spine (figure A).
- Coat top of box with white glue, spreading glue evenly to the edges. Attach book's front cover to top of box and back cover to bottom.
- Rip a few pages into 1" x 1" strips, overlap and glue to sides of box with text positioned at various angles. Cut off any excess at edges.
- Brush entire box with decoupage medium and allow to dry thoroughly.
- Place box upside down on flat surface. Using multipurpose cement glue, glue large beads on bottom for legs and allow to dry.
- Use cement glue to attach bead or handle to top of box, if desired. Be creative and choose something for the handle that complements the book's theme (leather for a Western, lace or ribbon for Romance, etc.)
